The Tea House
The Tea House is our latest exciting Eco build, converted from the owner’s original Studio. Based on an Oriental Tea House, with simple linear layout, it has many Zen-like qualities of peace and tranquillity. Taking advantage of its mature setting, well established lily pond and exotic planting, with views across the wild valley, it blends seamlessly into the lush landscape, which in summer gives a tropical feel.
Kitchen
The main entrance to the Tea House is via the deck area and double French doors into the kitchen. These doors open outwards, effectively doubling the floor area if weather permits and this is further helped by a semi-glazed roof which extends some way over the deck so that alfresco dining or a cocktail can be enjoyed in most weather conditions.
These glazed areas help to make this an attractive workspace with well-designed modern units and quality fitted appliances including a Neff oven/grill with extractor hood above, ceramic induction hob, refrigerator and microwave/grill, a granite-topped workstation with signature Geisha painting above and glass-topped breakfast table with seating. Two cane armchairs and table can be found on the deck.
Note a purpose made shared building, adjacent to Little Barn, houses a washing machine & small freezer.
Lounge
A glazed door from the kitchen leads into the attractive lounge, with its lofty beamed ceiling and triple aspect windows overlooking the pond, woodland and patio, giving a feeling of tranquillity. Tastefully furnished with antique Oriental pieces, a three-seater leather settee and two birch wood armchairs, plus a good selection of holiday reading / Tourist Information and modern LCD HD TV/DVD. As in the other rooms there is a polished bamboo floor and oriental rugs for added comfort plus electric radiator. A further glazed door opens onto a patio with granite Buddha feature, bonsai maple and access to the car park.
Note a wall-mounted clothes airer can be found at the rear of the building for guest use.
Bedroom
To the left of the kitchen is the double bedroom with double bed complete with mattress topper and Oriental fan above. An antique wardrobe with generous hanging space and drawer below plus matching dressing table.
Like the lounge, it has triple aspect windows (a fire exit) opening onto the spacious deck and views over the lily pond and through the archway, the valley beyond. Polished bamboo floor and oriental rugs plus slimline radiator add to the guests’ comfort, plus wall and reading lights above the bed.
En-suite Wet Room
A compact modern wet room with a tropical feel leads off the bedroom. This has a half-glazed ceiling through which guests can view fronds of a New Zealand Tree Fern outstretched above. A double shower complete with large waterfall shower and fixed glass panel, wall hung toilet, travertine marble floor fitted with under-floor heating for cooler months and a marble wash basin. Guest comment “just like our shower room in the Maldives”.
Entrance: Car park
From the main gate, a driveway to the right takes a route through the woodland garden to a private parking area surrounded by ancient stones.
A picnic table and granite seat enable guests to enjoy this peaceful sun spot. Graduated steps with curved handrail lead you up through an Oriental archway to the lily pond and spacious deck of the Tea House. A secondary access is possible via a slight incline to the right.
